Volunteering

Have you considered volunteering with us?

Are you a parent with time to spare? Are you interested in working with children?

We welcome parents and family members who wish to volunteer with us. Volunteering is a fulfilling and rewarding way to participate in the school community, and can give you a real insight into the rewards and demands of working in education.

We also accept requests for work experience placements from students of local secondary schools and Sixth Form colleges - however these placements are limited and must be arranged well in advance.

Please contact the School Office if you wish to volunteer.

We may ask:

  • your contact details
  • which class your child is in
  • what you are aiming to get out of volunteering with the school
  • if you are studying for a course in education or childcare
  • what times you are available for volunteering during the school week.

Important note for applicants requiring a placement for their childcare / education course

Staff from Grange Park Infant & Nursery School are unable to mentor or assess you, or give updates to your course provider regarding your progress, during your volunteering placement.

If your course provider requires that you are monitored or assessed, your course provider will need to arrange their own staff to do this.

Becoming a volunteer

After giving your details to the School Office, and if we have a space available, you will be sent a link to complete a DBS check application by email.

  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks are undertaken for all adults working, or volunteering, with children. This consists of an 'enhanced DBS' criminal records check. If you are unwilling to apply for such a check, we will be unable to allow you to become a volunteer.
  • It is very important that the three forms of ID requested are all valid, and that they exactly match the name given on your application. If there is an issue with your ID supplied, this can delay your application, and ultimately, the start of your volunteering placement.

Once you have submitted your application, please visit the School Office to supply your three forms of ID. They must be manually checked by the School Office.

If your application is successful, you will be sent your DBS certificate by post. Please visit the School Office once again so that the School Office can make a note of your certificate number and any endorsements.

The school will then contact you to arrange a schedule with you.

Things to be aware of

  • We will not normally allow a parent to volunteer in their child's class. This is to avoid distracting the child during their school day.
  • All volunteers will be given an induction, covering child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and emergencies.
  • Grange Park Infant & Nursery School reserve the right to decline a volunteering application, or to remove a current volunteer from their placement, if the Head Teacher believes it is not in the best interests of the school.

Interested in becoming a Governor?

Parent Governors are an important part of the school's Governing Body, responsible for the long-term running and strategy of the school. They support and challenge the Head Teacher and the Senior Leadership Team, ensuring that the school as a whole is providing the best education for all pupils. They work in partnership with the entire school community, communicate regularly with the school, conduct visits and attend special assemblies.

Parent Governors come from all walks of life, and no experience is required - just the will and passion to support our pupils, families and staff in achieving the very best for the children.

There are a limited number of Parent Governor seats on the Governing Body, but the Clerk is happy to receive applications from interested parents at any time.

Please contact the School Office if you are interested in applying. You can also visit the Governors page for more information.
