Geography
Children begin by learning about where they live and the buildings, occupations, features and climate in their own environment. These skills are then developed to include the wider world. Children learn to compare and contrast locations. They carry out geographical enquiry and in doing this they ask questions about people, places, and how environments meet community needs. The children are taught:
- through investigating
- to make and read maps
- to use pictures, photographs and online resources
- to use geographical vocabulary
- to be aware of environmental issues, such as protecting animal habitats.
The children will have the opportunity to go on class walks around the local area, to observe and investigate the community in which they live.
