English
The teaching of reading and writing has always been integral to the school and is spread throughout the whole curriculum.
There are three elements of English in the National Curriculum:
- Speaking and Listening: Children are encouraged to express themselves confidently and effectively for a variet of occasions and purposes, and to listen attentively.
- Reading: We support and encourage children through the stages of reading so that they develop into independent, fluent and expressive readers with increasing understanding and taste, and for whom reading is a pleasure and an enjoyable experience.
- Writing: The aim of the writing curriculum is to enable pupils to communicate and record their ideas, observations and thoughts clearly and confidently to different people in a variety of ways. The writing process includes spelling, punctuation and grammar and children are taught to develop a legible style of written English.
